Where the Streets Are All Named
Combined, my husband and I have lived in 19 different dwellings. They range from our growing-up houses to university digs to semi-creepy post-college apartments to the six different homes we've inhabited as a married couple. I know this because last fall, as we spent an early Saturday morning getting a jumpstart on packing for an imminent move across town, Nate asked/lamented, "How many times have we done this?" Never one to miss an opportunity to make a list, I grabbed a pen and started writing down the names of all the streets we've ever lived on. As the list kept growing, I got the idea to make this sign. It's kind of our own little historical marker, reminding us of the cross-country-and-back-again path we've taken to arrive here—in the house we'd be happy to inhabit forever. (Or, if not forever, at least until we've sent the last of our four kids to college—choke—and can beat a path to wherever our wanderlust and depleted bank account take us.)
I used Adobe Indesign to make the sign, exported it as a .jpg, and sent it to Costco where they printed it on canvas for $70-something. Lickety-split. If you have a lot of different streets under your belt and would like your own streets sign, email me! Or who says it has to be streets? Why not your bucket list with little check boxes next to each item? Or the list of places you've vacationed? Or your favorite authors or bands? The lists go on and on...
